A vacation in Las Vegas is less than relaxing if you do not plan your transportation carefully before you arrive. Driving in this city can be difficult, as traffic can be horrendous at busy times. There are public transportation options, but you need to have an understanding of them before you arrive.

One public transportation option that you have when visiting Las Vegas is the Last Vegas Monorail. Current price for the monorail is for a one-way ticket and for an all-day pass. This can be an affordable option for one person or a couple that is traveling in Vegas. Groups, however, do not receive a discounted rate, so the price can add up. The monorail is located on the east side of the Las Vegas Strip. It stops behind the major hotels. Riders often have to walk a long distance to make it to their destinations inside the hotel of their choice. This means the monorail is not a good option for people who are in a hurry. However, the cars are climate controlled and you will not have to worry about traffic when riding the monorail.

Another option is the Citizens Are Transit (CAT) bus line. This city bus line has 49 routes throughout Las Vegas and the surrounding areas. The hours for most routes are 5:30 in the morning until 1:30 in the morning. There are a few 24 hour a day routes in popular areas. It costs .25 for an adult to ride the bus for one of its routes. Children receive a reduced rate. A all-access pass that allows riders to use all of the routes in the system for a day is also available. You may find that a 30-day pass is more affordable if you plan to stay in Las Vegas for an extended period of time.

Taxis are also fairly affordable in Las Vegas. If you are going to have more than one or two people, a taxi is likely going to be the cheapest option. Part of the reason a taxi is affordable is the fact that most of the hotels are fairly close together. If you hire a taxi, remember to tip the driver around 15% of the fare. You will also need to pay per bag in your tip. In Las Vegas you will not pay any surcharges for extra passengers. However, if you get a taxi to or from the airport, you will pay an additional surcharge. The taxi will drop you off at the front door of the hotel you are visiting, which saves you time once you arrive.
